Who We Are

Barnes Staff | Bespoke Kitchens, Handmade Kitchens, Freestanding Kitchen furniture

Barnes of Ashburton was established by furniture designer Patrick Gunning over 30 years ago.  Since that time the business has built an enviable reputation for supplying the very finest bespoke kitchens and handmade freestanding furniture.  The business has grown in strength and character over the years and now employs a team of highly skilled bespoke kitchen designers and cabinetmakers all of which have the greatest respect for the wood with which they work.   Each bespoke kitchen is created from scratch, so you can be sure of a totally individual look and feel.

The initial visit – gathering ideas

Commissioning a bespoke kitchen design should be a pain-free experience and the initial visit to your home ensures that our designers and project managers are on your wavelength from the very beginning.  During this visit we will gather key information about your exact kitchen requirements; what you love and hate about your existing kitchen, how you use the space, your storage needs and the overall look you are aiming for.  We will be able to offer advice and guidance on suitable materials and bespoke design solutions and will take measurements of the space. This is also the ideal time to discuss your kitchen's proposed budgets and timescale.

The bespoke design process – putting ideas on paper

Once all the key information has been gathered, we will create detailed drawings of your bespoke kitchen, including any custom storage solutions that will help to maximise the available internal space of the kitchen. Having agreed on the initial design concept, we will then talk to you about the specifics of the kitchen design such as materials, appliances, finishes and individual requirements. We keep a close eye on product innovations and can advise on what materials and finishes will suit specific areas in the kitchen.  We now ask for a deposit on commission to secure your order.

The kitchen build and installation – turning ideas into reality

Once the bespoke design is agreed in principal and finances are in place, workshop and kitchen fitting schedules can be established. We offer a full bespoke design and installation service and will manage the kitchen project from start to finish, including the ordering of appliances, electrics and plumbing if required.  Although it inevitably takes longer to build a bespoke kitchen from scratch, we will supply you with a realistic completion date and our fitting team is extremely efficient, ensuring the minimum disruption in your home.

The grand finale – time to enjoy your bespoke kitchen

Once your bespoke kitchen design is in place and all appliances are installed, we will make a final site visit to inspect the end result and ensure that you are 100% happy with your beautiful new Barnes of Ashburton kitchen.

We take great pride in our work and, with your permission, we like to photograph our finished bespoke projects. You may have already seen our handmade kitchens in a number of magazines and it is this recognition that helps reinforce our strong reputation.
