Victorian Manor House

Bespoke design and hand-crafted cabinetry combine with grand Victorian proportions and fine period detail to create a truly awe-inspiring kitchen space. This latest project from Barnes of Ashburton features a huge, 3.5 metre long central island with a chunky 60mm walnut top creating space for dining as well as a fridge, dishwasher, pullout prep bin, and Quooker ‘all in one’ boiling hot and cold water tap.

A kitchen equipped for the serious cook, it features a statement piece plastered canopy cooker hood above the two oven gas AGA with Miele ovens, top grills and hobs with deep bespoke bottom drawers.

The robust, oversized fridge freezer unit incorporates cleverly staggered heights and depths to create yet another focal point, complete with ornate parapet detail. It features Sub Zero fridge freezers as well as a Miele combination oven and coffee machine.

The framed cabinetry features a highly distressed finish combining no less than 4 different chalky paint tones from Farrow & Ball and the result is a cohesive and relaxed looking scheme, in keeping with its coastal Devon setting.

Kitchen designer, Debbie Bowden describes working on the project as  “a privilege and a joy”. “A space of this scale necessitated statement pieces of show-stopping proportions, hence my design of the large central island and Armoire style refrigeration cabinetry. The project required a sympathetic approach to ensure the kitchen design remained true to its stunning Victorian architecture. And despite its scale and magnitude, it remains a relaxed, family space”.
